• The Irvington Farmer’s Market will be held Sept. 11 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. September is always a great month to go out the market — lots of produce in the stands. Go get some!
• The Hancock County Community Foundation is raising funds for a statue of James Whitcomb Riley to be placed in Greenfield. The “Reading with Riley” statue is part of the Bicentennial celebrations, and also marks the 100th anniversary of the beloved Hoosier Poet’s death on July 22, 1916. • If you missed “Drankspeare” at Indy Fringe, you’re in for a treat — an encore presentation at the White Rabbit Cabaret on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. The wildly popular show is paired with “An Evening with the Authors” from Fringe this year, which was also hilarious. Tickets are $15 each. Must be 21 to attend. The White Rabbit Cabaret is located at 1116 E. Prospect St. in Fountain Square.
• Tickets for the Special Irvington Ghost Tour to benefit Gaia Works are sold out! Thank you to the community for buying tickets and supporting an important cause. And thanks to Al and Rhonda and the whole crew who assist in the tours for your generosity and caring spirit.
• As a major renovation to the Southport Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library nears completion, a number of construction activities will necessitate its closing from Mon., Sept. 12 through Thurs., Sept. 15. The Southport Branch, located at 2630 E. Stop 11 Road, will reopen to the public on Fri., Sept. 16, with remaining renovation activities continuing until Sat., Oct. 15 when the branch will celebrate its community grand reopening.
• Indy Jazz Fest runs Sept. 15-24 with venues all around town, including the Jazz Kitchen, the Madame Walker, the Chatterbox, and many more. This year they are celebrating the legacy of Indy native Wes Montgomery. For a full line up of performances and venues, visit IndyJazzFest.net.
• Fridays at the Fort will be held Sept. 9 from 6-9 p.m. Visit the Lawrence Village Plaza for great music, food trucks, beer tent, and lots of community spirit.
• In the “makes you wonder” department: Someone has been stealing plants from the greenspace at the Pennsy Trail behind Irvington Plaza. Some neighbors have also been reporting hanging pot thefts from their front porches in Emerson Heights and Irvington. Please, let’s watch out for one another — and call in suspicious activity, regardless of how “petty” the theft.
• A big thanks to Tim and Beth Barton of the Otterbein Neighborhood Association for putting together a food pantry box for hungry neighbors on 17th and Gladstone. The Weekly View was glad to donate one of our newspaper boxes to this worthy cause! Neighbors are encouraged to donate nonperishables in the box.
