GREENFIELD — In t 2006, the City of Greenfield Park Board received a generous 20 acre donation of premier woodland from Herb and Judy Brown. This now 40 acre parcel of premier woodland will be protected and kept in its natural state for the enjoyment of future generations. Residents are invited to the newest woodland preserve, Thornwood, located at 2770 Morristown Pike in Greenfield. Hours fot the preserve are dawn to dusk.
Visitors will learn about the wetland area with all of the conditions that favor the growth of specially adapted plants and promote the development of characteristic wetland soils. There are 15 “Blue Post” Moments that are happenings specific only to Thornwood Preserve throughout the property.
Hikers can enjoy five trails that range in difficulty from moderate to rugged. Benches are located along the trails for visitors to stop, relax, enjoy, listen, and observe. Birdwatchers are welcome to visit and watch for the many species that frequent the property. The preserve also boasts many Indiana native wildflowers and plants, plus native trees. Thornwood is home to two creeks which attract unique wildlife.
