INDIANAPOLIS — LaManda Joy, an award-winning Master Gardener and author of Start a Community Food Garden and founder of the Peterson Garden Project in Chicago, will be the featured speaker at the Fall Creek Gardens fundraiser on May 21 at Shortridge High School, Caleb Mills Auditorium, 3401 N. Meridian. The lecture, “Sustainable Community Living with LaManda Joy from the Peterson Garden Project,” will be held from 7-9 p.m. and include a Q and A session.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the renovation of the Fall Creek Gardens building. Fall Creek Gardens is a non-profit committed to empowering home and urban food growers. The organization, focused on the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood, offers community gardens, and is working on renovating a building to create a food market and teaching kitchen for their programs and classes. The market will provide fresh produce, local milks and eggs within walking distance to residents in the mid-North community.
