• Eastgate neighbors are reminded that there will be an IMPD roving roll call at 13th and Huber on Fri., May 13 at 9:30 p.m. Don’t panic if you see a lot of police cars in the neighborhood!
• In celebration of the 100th running of the Indy 500, the Irvington Library will show historic Indianapolis 500 films, beginning May 17 at 7 p.m. The first week will feature “On the Sixes” silent highlights from 1916 and 1926, plus films from 1936, 1946, and 1956. Films on May 24 are from 1966, 1976, and 1986. The presenter will be Mike Hylton. The Irvington Library is located at 5625 E. Washington St.
• The Virginia Avenue Folk Festival will be held Sat., May 14 from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. There will be 100 bands on 13 stages in Fountain Square and Fletcher Place — lots of great music will be played throughout these very cool communities. • The Friends of Irving Circle (FOIC) are doing a clean-up day in the park on Sat., May 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Coffee, donuts, and lunch will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their tools and gloves. Tasks to be done include weeding, trash pick-up, mulching, and shrub trimming. Irving Circle is on S. Audubon, a few blocks south of E. Washington St. The Circle is the site for many community gatherings, including the summer concert series — this year, it starts on June 4 at 7 p.m. with local band Audio Diner. This year, FOIC will begin a major fundraising effort in order to raise funds to replace the lovely fountain at the Circle.
• Congratulations Geoffrey Slaughter to being named to the state Supreme Court! Slaughter is an east sider — an Irvingtonian, no less!

• The Lawrence Branch, 7898 N. Hague Rd., will present Little Farmer’s Market: Healthy Eating Class for Preschoolers on May 24 at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers ages 3 – 6 and an adult are invited for a fun workshop with the Marion County Health Department to learn why fruits and vegetables are so fabulous. There’ll be games, stories, and even a little snacking. All activities are peanut free. Contact your IndyPL branch with any allergy concerns. Call 275-4460 to register.
• The 22nd Annual Wicket World of Croquet at the Benjamin Harrison home downtown will be held June 4. Teams of two are encouraged to participate; cost is $150 for a team.
