• Fountain Square’s Hotel Tango Artisan Distillery has won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Fifth Annual Denver International Spirits competition in Colorado for its Mike Moonshine (first in Corn Whiskey Moonshine), Romeo Rum (second for Rum, White), and Lima Charlie Limoncello (third for Other Liqueurs). Started last year, Hotel Tango is the first service-disabled, combat veteran owned distillery in the country, Congratulations!
• The Indiana State Teachers Association recently honored Joyce J. Click with the 2015 Horace Mann Hoosier Educator of the Year Award at its annual Representative Assembly meeting. Click is Indiana’s first Nationally Board Certified Teacher in music. She has taught for 37 years in the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township. She recently was named a Grammy Award semi-finalist as the top 25 of 5,000 nationally nominated music teachers. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, including Washington Township Teacher of the Year, Semi-Finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year, Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, Shining Star Award, and two Lilly Creativity Fellowships. Click currently teaches at North Central High School, where she directs five choirs, including the King’s Court Singers (North Central’s madrigal choir), and also directs the Handbell Ringing Club.
• Thank you to all the folks who were out in Brookside Park on April 23 planting trees to celebrate Earth Day! Great work in helping make our neighborhood parks even better.
• The Green Shepherd Project on the near eastside needs our help! Earlier this year, someone stole their solar power unit that protects the sheep at their project (one of the sheep was badly mauled a while back by stray dogs and had to be put down). They have started a Crowdrise online fundraiser at www.crowdwise.com (search for Sue Spicer’s fundraiser). You can also “friend” them on Facebook and find out how to help this organization that is trying very hard to make our neighborhood a better place.
• Nehemiah Bible Church at 1035 N. Oxford hosts a free legal advice clinic on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
