INDIANAPOLIS — All Indiana residents and businesses can be a part of a special project endorsed by the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Commission — “Blue and Gold Floral Tribute to Indiana’s Flag.” Any size planting — large or small, in ground or in containers — will show Hoosier pride.
The Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. submitted this project, and received the endorsement. Garden club members are eagerly promoting the planting of blue and gold flowers statewide. They plan to use the flag’s colors in their many civic projects, such as plantings at municipal buildings, libraries, schools, nursing homes, parks, as well as their own homes.
To begin 2016 with a burst of blue and gold colors, consider planting some easy to grow bulbs this fall: crocus, daffodil, hyacinth and tulip. Follow with pansies in the spring, and annuals later on.
The Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. has approximately 1600 members in 55 clubs. It is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1930 to promote interest in gardening, landscape improvements and horticulture; to aid in the protection and conservation of our natural resources; and to educate in horticulture, conservation and landscape design through scholarships. Member of National Garden Clubs, Inc. and Central Region.
