INDIANAPOLIS — On Aug. 7, the 2015’s second installment of the 5×5 $10,000 ideas competition entitled Look Indy: The City is Your Classroom was held at the Harrison Center for the Arts on the corner of Delaware and East 16th St. Nostalgically themed around an old school classroom environment, complete with a chalkboard and an overhead projector, Look Indy drew ideas that integrated a sense of place into education. The night consisted of five finalists pitching their ideas to a panel of judges, and an audience of nearly 400 people. In the end, Baltimore native and graphic designer Grant Thomas emerged as the winner with his idea, Color Me Indy. Thomas, who just began an internship at Studio Science, is excited to put roots down in Indy.
Color Me Indy is an interactive coloring guidebook that will highlight iconic Indianapolis points of interest from monuments to restaurants. According to Thomas, the goal of this project is to connect people to place, and to draw attention to the city’s history in an enticing way. “Color Me Indy will ask questions and push its audience toward active engagement with Indianapolis and its residents,” Thomas explained.
The 5×5 is a series of events, funded by CICF, Christel DeHaan Family Foundation, the Efroymson Family Fund, and the Lilly Endowment, intended to inspire, ignite, and financially support creative and innovative ideas related to the arts.
