• The Buck Creek Players will wrap up their 41st season of quality theater, with the 2015 Play-A-Part Fundraiser, The Music Man. Running for only four performances over one weekend, performance times are at 8 p.m. on Fri., July 31st, 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 1st, and 2:30 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 2nd. All performances will be held at the Buck Creek Playhouse at 11150 Southeastern Ave. Tickets are $25 for everyone. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made online at www.buckcreekplayers.com, or by calling the automated reservation line at (317) 862-2270. Group discounts are also available for parties of ten or more when purchased online.
• Beech Grove will hold a Community Update meeting on July 28 at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Hot topics on the agenda include updates on Walmart, Motel 6, the St. Francis property, upcoming sewer work, the library, and much more. The meeting is open to the public.
• Franciscan St. Francis Health Sports Medicine is offering a makeup sport physical/screen screening on Sat., Aug. 1. The screenings will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the hospital’s Indianapolis campus (5255 E. Stop 11 Road, Suite 301). The cost is $15 per screening (cash or check only). Screenings are by appointment only and may be made by calling 317-781-1133.
• Record rainfall in the area has brought out scammers, as well as legitimate contractors. If you believe you may have been a victim of a home improvement scam, you can file a complaint with the Indiana Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. The complaint form is available for download at www.IndianaConsumer.com or call 1-800-382-5516 to request a form by mail. Remember to always ask for proof the contractor is licensed and bonded. Don’t pay for jobs in advance, give in to high pressure sales tactics, or pay cash for services. Check out the Weekly View’s Home Service section (page 7) for service providers, or ask neighbors for recommendations.
• SAVE THE DATE: There will be a Higher M-Pact Community Conversation on Aug. 6 at Westminster Neighborhood Services, 2325 E. New York St. Tyrone Flowers, founder of Higher M-Pact will be the featured speaker. Higher M-Pact provides intense long-term mentoring, after school programs, and education to communities about the serious issues facing high-risk urban youth.
