Indianapolis – A local production of West Side Story, a true American musical, opens Footlite Musicals’ 60th season and runs through July 26. Performances of West Side Story are: Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances are $23 for adults, $15 for youth 17 and younger. Thursdays are only $10.
From the first notes of its vibrant score to the last, West Side Story is one of the greatest musicals and love stories of all time. This landmark Broadway musical is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to 1950s New York City as two idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most heart-wrenching musical dramas of our time. Nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Footlite’s Young Adults production will feature performers ranging in age from 18 to 25.
