Applause!: Dec. 19-Jan. 2

• All Indianapolis Public Libraries will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday. Additionally, the Flanner House Branch will be closed on Dec. 26. All libraries will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will remain closed on Jan. 1, except the InfoZone, which will be open on Jan. 1 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Additionally, the Flanner House Branch will be closed on Jan. 2.
• Even though St.Bernadette Catholic Church closed at the end of November, we will continue our tradition of offering a free Christmas dinner. The meal will be from 12 to 2 on Christmas day at 4838 E. Fletcher Ave. in the social hall at St. Bernadette. The goal is to offer a great meal and fellowship for those who are alone or in need.
• The 1st Annual Seniors Daytime Christmas Celebration will be held at Old Bethel United Methodist Church, 7995 East 21st Street (21st Franklin Rd) on Dec. 19 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (doors open 10am). Tickets are $5.00 which includes a free lunch.
• Award-winning decorators for “A Favorite Christmas Story,” the 26th annual Warren Holiday TreeFest, have been announced by the Warren Arts & Education Foundation, Inc. Winners include MSD Warren Township Transportation Department, Liberty Park Elementary School,Lakeside Elementary School, Susie Jensen,  Barbara Butz, and the daughters of Rose Marie Pennington. The first Rose Marie Pennington Best Lighting Memorial Award was won by Hawthorne Elementary School, and the Caroline Feldman Memorial People’s Choice Award was picked up by Dianne Hoover for the entry “Read Me Your Favorite Christmas Story, Mr. Grinch.” The late Mrs. Pennington and Mrs. Feldman were long-time volunteers for the event and the foundation.
• Eastgate resident (and president of their neighborhood association) Sharon Tabard recently retired as the Community Liaison officer for the Sheriff’s office, 9-1-1 dispatch. Sharon will continue to be active in the community, but will have more spare time — congratulations!
