Imogene Jones, former columnist for the Eastside Herald, eastside business owner, and tireless volunteer for many good causes, recently celebrated her 108th birthday.
Born November 9, 1906, Imogene has had a full and lively life. She was the publicity director for the United Christian Missionary Society, a reporter for the Indianapolis Star, and during World War II, a public relations writer who traveled the globe.
After the war, Imogene was active with the American Red Cross at the blood donation center and then with the Junior Red Cross. She left the Red Cross to take the position of Executive Director for Central Indiana Council of Campfire Girls in 1961.
If that wasn’t enough, Imogene owned Four Seasons Imports and Music Center on East Washington St. She was very active in several east side organizations, including the Children’s Guardian Home Guild, and the Irvington Businessmen’s Association. Many people on the east side still remember her positive spirit and helpfulness.
Imogene was a very popular columnist in the Eastside Herald, which was called East Side Emporia until the 1990s.
She is currently in an assisted living facility on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
