INDIANAPOLIS —The 7th Annual Pack the Pantries campaign began Oct. 31. The campaign seeks monetary and food donations to benefit local food pantries. The City’s Front Porch Alliance will partner with Gleaners and Midwest food banks, the Indy Hunger Network and other hunger reduction advocates. Since the first campaign in 2008, Pack the Pantries has received more than 100,000 pounds of food and $200,000 in monetary donations.
This year, the campaign will focus on monetary donations. Both Gleaners and Midwest food banks can leverage every dollar given to provide three meals.
There are three ways to make a secure monetary donation:
• On a smartphone, download the free Givelify app from the App Store or Google Play. Search for Pack the Pantries and donate in three easy taps.
• Chase Bank is sponsoring a text to give number this year. Text BEATHUNGER to 41444 to make a donation.
• Write a check or money order made payable to The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee with a note specifying Pack the Pantries in the memo section. Mail it to The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Office of the Mayor, 200 East Washington Street, Suite 2501, Indianapolis IN 46204
Food and monetary donations toward Pack the Pantries may be made through Dec. 19, 2014. Both Gleaners and Midwest food banks will distribute donations to local food pantries.
