INDIANPOLIS — On Oct. 27, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department swore in 28 new recruits which comprise the 10th IMPD Recruit Class.
Mayor Ballard’s 2015 budget will allow IMPD to hire 90 more recruits next year and 280 recruits between 2015 and 2018.
The new class is currently comprised of 24 males and 4 females. 61 percent of the overall class is white, 29 percent is black and 10 percent is Hispanic.
Recruits were vetted during a screening process which began in October of last year. These new recruits had to pass a written examination, physical fitness test, oral interview assessment, a comprehensive background investigation, an evaluation by the pension board, and finally approval from the Chief of Police and the Merit Board.
The new recruits will begin training immediately at the IMPD Training Academy. The academy and field training is a total of 47 weeks.
