GREENFIELD — Chalk Fest will be held Sept. 13 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., on Courthouse Plaza, Greenfield. Both professional and amateur artists of all ages will fill Courthouse Plaza with colorful sidewalk chalk art.
Children pay $5, teens $10 and adults $15 for their own section of sidewalk to create their artistic designs. Team sections are also available. Chalk is provided. This year’s theme is “All You Need is Chalk,” a musical reference to the Beatles’ 50th anniversary of their first U.S. performance.
All Chalk Fest participants get a wristband to attend Taste of Hancock County, from 4 to 10 p.m. that night on American Legion Plaza just east of the courthouse.
To promote Chalk Fest, students from all four Hancock County high schools will decorate sidewalks outside Greenfield City Hall on Sept. 11. The public is invited to come out and enjoy their artwork all weekend long, and to stop by to see all the great art taking place on Saturday.
Caricature artist John Reifel will help promote Chalk Fest by doing caricatures from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at the Creative Arts and Events Center, at 2 W. Main St. in downtown Greenfield.
Guest artist Allan Etter will be on hand Saturday creating a professional, elaborate work of chalk art. As for the amateur art, Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell will be among the three judges selecting winners in each category. Prizes will be awarded to the top winners in each group, as well as a People’s Choice winner.
