INDIANAPOLIS — A popular newspaper columnist, an internationally-known animal trainer, writers of books on local history and multiple others will be part of the free Authors Fair, to be held Saturday June 7th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Franklin Road Library, 5550 S. Franklin Rd..
Sponsored by the Franklin Township Historical Society, the Authors Fair gives the public the opportunity to meet and interact with local authors and gain insight into the writing process. Autographed books will be sold, complimentary refreshments provided, door prizes given, and publications about writing will be available for purchase. The Historical Society’s books about local history will also be available.
The afternoon’s feature event will be a presentation at 1:30 by Skip Hess, popular outdoor columnist for The Indianapolis Star. Among the other authors present will be animal trainer Laura VanArendonk Baugh, whose book Fired Up, Frantic, & Freaked Out became one of the best-selling dog training manuals of the past year. Well-known local author and long-time columnist Sylvia Henricks will be present, greeting visitors and signing copies of her many books on area history. David Ostheimer will likewise be available to sign copies of his book From Indian Trails to Interstates: A History of Franklin Township, Marion County, Indiana, for Young Readers.
Theresa A. Hatfield, Charles Purtlebaugh and Charles Lynn will also be among the authors present. Lynn, a Franklin Township native, learned long ago how to live with cerebral palsy. He has said of his book that it’s “about the people in my life. I work at the Indy 500 Track and the Indiana State Fair. I meet nice people wherever I go.”
