• Dan Carpenter will be signing his book, “Indiana Out Loud,” from 8 a.m. to noon at the Binford Avenue Farmers Market, 7800 North Hague Road, on Saturday, June 7 at the Bookmamas booth. David Leander Williams will be signing his book, “Indiana Avenue: The Masters, Legends and Legacy of Indiana Avenue,” at the Irvington Farmers Market in Ellenberger Park on June 8 from noon-3 p.m.
• Applications for the 6th annual Miss Irvington Halloween Festival Scholarship Program are now available at Snips in Historic Irvington. The program is open to young ladies who live in Marion county, are between 15-21 years of age and are enrolled in high school or college. This years program will be held on Oct. 18th.
• The St. Dime Street Festival will be held June 14, 3-7 p.m. A vibrant group of Near Eastside neighbors have organized this small festival featuring music, food, and community and health information. The festival is at E. 10th & Hamilton Ave. It’s intended as cross-cultural exchange to build community among Near Eastside residents. Mark your calendar!
• It’s First Friday all over town June 6 from 6-9 p.m. Check out Irvington’s music scene at the Underground 9 Studio at 8 p.m. with Delta Duo, joined by Caleb Hawkins and Jeff Kelly (in Bookmamas, 9 Johnson Ave.). Textile artist Von Briggs will be showing in the Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. and there will be mandala carvings inspired by Bali from Jamie Locke at the 5547 Project, 5547 Bonna Ave. The Clifford Corners-Urban Box at 3125 E. 10th St. is usually hopping, and check out the Art Bank at 811 Mass Ave. for more interesting works. • IMPD East District Task Force will hold its monthly meeting on June 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the IMPD Training Academy, 901 N. Post Rd. These are informational meetings about current happenings in the police department, crime statistics and usually a special topic speaker. They are very informative.
• Congratulations Anthony Sims, Jr., who recently won his second pro bout in Cincinnati against John Thorpe. Sims recently opened the Sims Boxing Gym at 4615 E. 10th St., which is where he works with young people in the community, and trains for his bouts.
• Little Red Door is now offering wellness activities, including massage and yoga, to cancer patients/survivors, caregivers and medical providers.
