GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Arts and Cultural Council is looking for Indiana artists to participate in the 2014 Will Vawter Art Competition and Exhibit which will take place on June 27 and 28. The exhibition, in the Creative Arts and Event Center at 2 West Main St. in Greenfield, will last until July 12. The Vawter Art Competition, in its seventeenth year, is a juried art exhibit, judged this year by Patrick Flaherty, teacher and Director of Exhibitions & Artist Services at the Indianapolis Art Center. Flaherty is also Director of the Broad Ripple Art Fair. Entry is open to all Indiana artists in the following categories: Oil and Acrylic, Watercolor, and Everything Else 2D. The entry fee is $35 per artist for up to three entries. Art Council members receive a $10 discount. Registrations must be postmarked by June 14. Awards range from $100 to $1000. The Will Vawter Paint out will be held on June 28 in conjunction with the Juried Art Competition. There is no advance registration or fee this year for the Paint Out. Artists should check in at the Creative Arts and Events Center between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. The Arts Council will provide maps of Hancock County, a list of suggested scenic locations, and water. Finished work should be brought back by 3 p.m. for a “Meet and Greet” reception with the public and the chance to sell your work. The Hancock County Arts and Cultural Council retains 35 percent on all sales.
