HANCOCK CO. — An audience of 300 gathered at Bradley United Methodist Church in Greenfield on April 12 to attend Flying Free, the Hancock County Children’s Choir’s spring concert. Under the direction of Artistic Choral Director, Gayle Roschi, the choir performed a variety of pieces providing an evening of enjoyable entertainment to a nearly full house. Allen Miller, Butler University faculty and Indianapolis Symphony member, accompanied the choir. Mr. Miller also treated the audience to a solo performance of “Bugler’s Holiday.” Violinist Mr. Johnny Smith, graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music returned to the Hancock County Children’s Choir stage to accompany the choir and to play Puccini’s beautiful “O Mio Babbino Caro.”
The choir also made its first announcement of the formation of a new ensemble, Piccoli Angeli, for children aged kindergarten through second grade. This ensemble will begin in the fall of 2014. Contact Artistic Choral Director, Mrs. Gayle Roschi, for more information at gayleroschi@gmail.com.
Those attending Saturday evening’s performance had an opportunity to bid on an official Pacers hat autographed by player Lance Stephenson, which was generously donated by the Indiana Pacers Organization. The silent auction raised funds to support the programming of the choir.
The choir’s next performance will be at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 24 where they will participate in the MidAmerica Treble Choir Festival conducted by Ruth Dwyer of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and accompanied by the New England Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Hancock County Children’s Choir is a choral performance and education program that creates musical opportunities for youth through the performance of a variety of musical literature including sacred, secular, classical, pop, and cross-cultural genres of music.
