INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee has announced a three-week endeavor to engage the community in discussion around the future of the school system. Dr. Ferebee’s “listening tour” officially began with his arrival in Indianapolis in September 2013. As he continues to engage students, staff, parents and community members, Dr. Ferebee will intensify his efforts via an online survey and several community meetings.
Indianapolis Public Schools is asking students, employees, families, local business leaders, and community members to share input about the district’s successes and challenges through a survey launching today.
Additionally, Dr. Ferebee will talk directly with community members during a series of tour dates within two specific formats: 1) traditional town hall meetings, where attendees will share their thoughts and ask the superintendent questions; and 2) small work sessions, where attendees will engage in “deep-dive” discussion activities. These sessions will begin on January 31, 2014 and will occur in various locations throughout the community.
There will be town hall meetings on Feb. 1 from 2-3:25 at Julia Carson Government Center (300 E. Fall Creek Parkway N. Dri.), on Feb. 4 from 6-7:25 p.m. at the Southeast Community Service Center (901 Shelby St.), and on on Feb. 6 from 7-8:25 p.m. at East Seals Crossroads (4740 Kingsway Dr.).
There will be work session meetings on Jan. 31 at Community Alliance of the Far Eastside (8902 E. 38th St.) from 1-2:25 p.m. and on Feb. 5 from 1-2:25 p.m. at the University of Indianapolis, Schwitzer Center, UIndy Hall A (1400 E. Hanna Ave.).
The survey can be accessed online at The survey can be accessed via a link on the district’s Web site at www.myips.org.
