INDIANAPOLIS — The 6th annual “Friends of the Poor®” Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Washington Park, 3130 E. 30th St., across from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVdP) food pantry. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the walk/run starting at 10 am. Participants will have the option of a one-mile or 5K route.
Last year, the walk had a record 68 participants and raised nearly $11,500 — an increase of nearly 300% over the prior year. To make the walk experiential and to raise awareness of hunger and poverty in Indianapolis, there will be four stops along the route with signs providing information on three topics: little-known facts about poverty, a prayer to end poverty and hunger, and actions people can take to make a difference.
To sign up to walk, go to http://www.svdpusa.net/fop/, click on “Walkers,” and follow the prompts.
There are also paper registration forms available in the SSVdP distribution center, 1201 E. Maryland St., and food pantry, 3001 E. 30th St., and on the Indy SSVdP Walk website (www.indysvdpwalk.org/).
