IRVINGTON — EclecticPond Theatre Company (ETC) kicks off its third season September 13 with a fast-paced, hour-long adaptation of Romeo & Juliet. This energetic version uses the original language of Shakespeare, but brings the play into the 21st century with a talented ensemble of actors each playing a different role every night.
Face it, we all know the story — “Two star-crossed lovers…,” their feuding families, and (SPOILER ALERT), they both die at the end. But, this isn’t your textbook Verona. ETC has brought a whole new feeling and creative force to this tragic tale.
“To make our show easily accessible, we cut the text to the core story and gave it the fast pace needed to grasp and retain an audience,“ said ETC Artistic Director Thomas Cardwell, the show’s director. “We are truly blessed to have this incredible cast and crew to work and play with for this production.”
That ensemble of actors has been double, triple, and quadruple cast — meaning no two shows will be the same.
Originally conceived for student audiences, this version of the Bard’s tale was adapted by ETC to take into schools.
Performances will be at the Irvington Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. Performance dates include: September 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and September 15 & 29 at 5:30 p.m. ETC will offer tickets at a reduced educator/student rate for the entire run, with advance tickets (available at http://etcrandj.bpt.me) priced at $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under; at the door $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under.
