City Inventories Trees in Warren, Lawrence Townships

INDIANAPOLIS — The Dept. of Public Works recently announced that it will perform a partial tree inventory and planting spaces on city property in Warren and Lawrence townships, ending Sept. 30. Evaluating the health and diversity of the city’s urban forest will help DPW’s Urban Forestry team prioritize maintenance needs.
Information being gathered includes the number of trees on city property, the species of trees and current condition. Urban Foresters will also assess health and maintenance needs, possible problems, the presence of insects or diseases, root space, public safety concerns and possible locations for future planting.

INHP Partners with KIB to Create Public Greenspace

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) has awarded Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) a $6,000 grant for support of KIB’s IPL Project Greenspace program. Funds from this grant will be used to work in partnership with the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood to plan and execute a pocket park and greenspace project — transforming four vacant lots at the northwest corner of Beecher and Singleton on June 10.
Volunteers prepped flower beds, weeded medians, and removed litter. The beds will be planted in fall.
