• The terrible warehouse fire on the southwest side could be seen all the way over here on the far east side. Once again, our first responders, especially our firefighters, risked life and limb to protect the community. Thank you to police, firefighters, EMTs, and all the unsung heroes among us!
• Very exciting to see the Old Post Office work starting. The Irvington Development Organization and the Irvington Historical Society teamed up to buy the building, and as of June 18, are starting the first phase of stabilizing the building and repairing the roof.

They’ll be selling tickets for Irvington Garden Tour from 1-4 p.m.

• On the Irvington Neighborhood Facebook page, Kathleen at Bookmamas recently reported the theft of the donation jar that was earmarked for the local food pantry. Some guy just grabbed it and ran out of the store. Fortunately, many of the people reading the page made a special effort to drop by and make donations to replace the money that was stolen. There are way more good people out there than bad.

Second, only those over 18 can buy fireworks. Third, fireworks can only be set off until 11 p.m. Check out www.in.gov/portal/news_events/39380.htm.
• The Flag Day Celebration, Father’s Day BBQ and Classy Car Show at the Historic Benton House last Sunday was a big success. President Benjamin Harrison was on hand with Boy Scout Troop 9 from Irvington for the flag ceremony.
