INDIANAPOLIS — The Memorial weekend is a busy one in Indianapolis, with parades, picnics, and a little car race on the west side.
The 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 is the culmination of a weekend of festivities, including the 500 Festival Memorial Service on Monument Circle on May 24 at noon, and the Indianapolis 500 Parade on May 25 from noon-1:30 p.m. This year’s Grand Marshall is the Indiana Fever, and expect to see the 33 starting drivers, plus all the usual parade glitz.
There will be special “Carb Day” tours of Lucas Oil Stadium on May 24 at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Cost is $10 adults, $7 children and seniors. Call 262-8600 to make reservations. There will also be special tours offered on parade day.
The Indianapolis 500 will be run at the Brickyard May 26 — the biggest spectacle in racing.
On Memorial Day, May 27, federal, state, and local government offices will be closed. In addition, the Weekly View offices will be closed. Deadline for classified and home service advertising will remain at Tuesday at noon for that week’s issue.
