• The Little Flower Summerfest is almost here! Mark your calendar for May 31-June 2. The festival this year will have a midway, lots of food, a huge silent auction, and a big rummage sale. Grown-ups can be found in the Monte Carlo game rooms inside, with a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Friday night. Live entertainment, Silly Safari, and much more will be on the grounds of the church. This year, the Indiana Pacer Fan Van will be there on Sunday at 2 p.m. Little Flower Catholic Church is located at Bosart and 14th streets — a lovely community on the east side with great neighbors. Please, check it out!
• DPW is preparing to tear up Shortridge Road so they can make it better. Work is starting soon between 10th and Washington streets, so when you come in to place your garage sale ads at the Weekly View offices (hint, hint) at 195 N. Shortridge, it might be a little more difficult to get in and out.
• Lemonade Day throughout the city was a huge success. Great to see the kids out with their creative stands on May 18, and moms and dads helping out. Lots of money was raised for good causes, and lots of kids learned the basics of running a business.
• A not-so-gentle reminder to people using fireworks — according to state law, you can only discharge fireworks if you are over the age of 18 (or if younger, in the presence of an adult) and only on YOUR property. That means no on-the-street bang-a-paloozas, folks. According to the law, fireworks may be discharged on Memorial Day until midnight. Please be courteous to your neighbors, people.
• Congratulations to Black Acre Brewpub, which won the Indy A-List Microbrew Madness poll on May 20, beating out Flat12 Bierworks (another fine eastside establishment) to take bragging rights to the best suds in town according to people who rate such things.

• Memorial Day was created to remember and honor those who have died protecting the nation, our streets, our homes, and our freedom. Please keep our active duty soldiers in your thoughts, as well as our nation’s first responders.
