Applause! March 29-April 5

• It’s with sadness we report that the Mayor’s Liaison for the east side, Ruth Ann Walker, will retire from her position on March 28. Ruth Ann has been a tireless advocate for the east side for many years, and the “go to” person for getting things done. Until another Mayor’s Liaison is found for the area, if there are issues, contact Noelle Malatestinic at 408-1991 (cell) or Dennis Papenmeier at 205-5081 (cell). Farewell Ruth Ann, and thank you for your years of service.
• Passover began March 25 and continues for eight days. Wishing all our Jewish friends and readers a good Passover.
• The east side will be getting a hops farm soon. A variance was granted to build trellises and a storage building to Matt Crankshaw and Justin Kratoska on Wellington Ave. in mid-March. Their goal is to grow hops for local breweries — a growing part of the Indiana economy. Congratulations and hope everything goes well!

• A thousand oak trees will be given away on April 26 beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Monument Circle. IPL, Hoosier Heartland RC & D, and the Indianapolis/Marion County Tree Board are sponsoring the give-away. Keep in mind that oak trees aren’t power-line friendly, so scope out a space for them away from utility lines. With proper care, oak trees will be your gift to several generations to come. (And the squirrels will love the acorns!)
• This is Easter weekend, and here at the Weekly View, we wish everyone a wonderful and peaceful time with family and friends.
