INDIANA — Thirty-three year-old Brandy McCord was crowed Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2013 at the Indiana Historical Society in ceremonies in support of Disability Awareness Month on Saturday, March 16th.
The event is a People On Wheels outreach to promote the disability community and provides a platform for a dialogue from which disabled women can address their fellow Hoosiers.
McCord is a Regional Re-Entry Coordinator for Corizon, a medical provider for the Indiana Department of Correction. She travels around the state to work and advocate for special needs offenders who are being released from incarceration. She holds a BS from Indiana University, races in 5K races, and exercises to stay fit.
Brandy has Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and is in search of a new kidney so that she can continue to work and be productive and well. She volunteers with special needs children and advocates for people with disabilities in and outside of her work environment. She is eager to share her message of understanding with the Hoosier “able-bodied” community.
McCord will enjoy a year-long reign speaking at various engagements throughout the state and travel to Houston, Texas, July 15 — 21 to compete in the 42nd Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.
