INDIANAPOLIS — On Saturday, February 16, Indianapolis EMS Medic 50 pulled away from Methodist Hospital after completing a run. At approximately 3:37 a.m., IEMS Medic 50 was involved in a serious accident at the corner of Senate Ave. and St. Clair St. in downtown Indianapolis. IEMS Private Timothy C. McCormick, an EMT, passed away at Wishard Hospital that due to severe injuries. Specialist Cody S. Medley, a paramedic, passed away at Wishard Hospital early Sunday morning due to severe injuries.
Tim, 24, joined the IEMS team in June 2010. He was originally from New York state. He was a compassionate provider who was involved in community outreach efforts for IEMS and participated in many health fairs educating the public on CPR. Tim lived in Greenwood. He trained as an EMT in New York and had recently attended IUPUI. He was an Eagle Scout.
Cody, 22, joined the IEMS team in June 2010. He attended high school in Scranton, Penn. He is described by his friends and colleagues as a fun, outgoing man who enjoyed his job greatly. Cody lived in Indianapolis and enjoyed volunteering and being outdoors. He did his EMS training through IEMS and the IEMS Academy. He was a member of the Sunman Fire Department in Sunman, Ind., prior to joining IEMS.
In a statement, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said, “Our community is mourning the loss of Indianapolis EMS Specialist Cody Medley, who passed away due to severe injuries sustained in the major motor vehicle crash that also killed his EMT partner, IEMS Private Timothy McCormick. These first responders were devoted to helping others and risked their own lives to do so every day on the job. We stand by our IEMS family to give them strength in this time of grief.”
The public memorial service for the two was held Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University.
Mayor Greg Ballard today announced the rescheduling of the 2013 State of the City Address following the tragic events over the weekend that claimed the lives of IEMS Private Timothy McCormick and IEMS Specialist Cody Medley.
The State of the City, originally planned for February 19, will now be delivered by Mayor Ballard on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Alexander Hotel at CityWay.
