INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett announced that Cottage Home will be the city’s ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ for October 2018. The ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ program highlights Indianapolis neighborhood initiatives, works to engage community groups, and promotes projects by City departments.
Located on the near east side of Indianapolis next to Arsenal Technical High School, this historic neighborhood continues to honor its past and embrace its future. The neighborhood takes its name from the style of houses built between 1870 and 1900. Early residents built modest frame cottage homes in a variety of styles, including shotgun and Queen Anne vernacular. Today, this community is recognized as a conservation district by the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission and parts of the community have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
This month will mark Cottage Home’s 35th annual neighborhood block party. This Halloween-themed event is to honor its distinctiveness within the city and the growing appreciation for the area. City-County Councillor and Vice President of the City-County Council Zach Adamson represents this neighborhood in District 17 and appreciates the residents and history of the neighborhood.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Cottage Home. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month visit: http://indy.gov/NoM.
