Halloween Festival Attracts 60K Celebrants

IRVINGTON — The 77th Annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival finishe in spectacular fashion with the Street Fair on Oct. 28. The estimate of the crowd was 60,000, with hundreds of vendors on hand. The costumes this year were particularly great, and it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Costume Contest First Place Winners included in the Adult category: (Homemade)  Mariah Whitesell as BarBearian, (Scary) Kolton Wilson as Witch Doctor, (Pop Culture) Hannah Hoffman as Wendigo. The Group Costumes were highly competitive, with First Place Winners (Handmade/Original) the Roberson crew as Clue, (Scary) Well Adjusted Clown Possee, and (Pop Culture) the St. Laurent Family as The Bundys from Married with Children. Director’s Choice Winner was “To Irvington and Beyond” as the cast of Toy Story.

Children, which are always the focus of the festival, were absolutely the best. Children’s First Place winners were in 0-5 Year Old category: (Handmade) Grady Carroll-Phillips as Johnny on the Spot, (Scary) Ireland Carter as Vampira, (Pop Culture) Brandon Glass as the Mad Hatter. Ages 6-12 First Place winners include: (Handmade) Graham Tracy as Skull Kid, (Scary) Leia Sparks as Bloody Mary, (Pop Culture) Maggie Swan as Audrey from The Little Shop of Horrors. In the 13-17 category, First Place went to: (Handmade) Ares Euneman as Pyramid Head, (Scary) Reese Corp as Wendigo, and (Pop Culture) Miles Duke as Weird Al Jankovic.
In addition to the humans in costume, there were many entries for the Canine Competition, and an online Feline Competition. There were many adorable costumes for little pups and big dogs alike.
Many volunteers were on hand to clean up and direct people to various destinations. Over 120 police and security people were out helping direct traffic and keeping everyone safe. Many thanks go to the Halloween Committee for their months-long work making the festival happen, and heartfelt appreciation for the many volunteers.
