IMPD Names New Senior Staff Chaplain

INDIANAPOLIS — Chief Randal Taylor recently swore in new Staff Chaplain John Russell, Jr., after the recent retirement of Patricia Holman.
Chaplain John Russell, Jr., is a native of South Alabama. He graduated from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, The University of South Alabama and Gammon Seminary. Beginning his spiritual journey in the Church of God in Christ, Chaplain Russell later joined the United Methodist Church where he is currently serving University United Methodist Church.
He is a recipient of the Marion Ballard Achievement Award and The Bishop Cornelius Henderson Award. Ministries led by Chaplain Russell have built a church in West African, taught Leadership Development in Tanzania, organized medical relief in South America, supported migrant workers and refugees and has opened a DACA office to aid young persons who are DACA recipients.
Chaplain Russell is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Phi MU Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Lastly Chaplain Russell enjoys football and big game hunting.
