Benton House Events

The Historic Benton House at 312 S. Downey in Irvington is a neighborhood treasure that the residents of Irvington are very proud of. A group of very dedicated Irvingtonians work hard every year to raise money for the upkeep of this magnificent home built in 1873.
The fund raising has started with the Annual Flag Day Celebration on Father’s Day Sunday, June 16th from noon to 4 p.m. This event is free, but there will be a BBQ with food available ($8 adults and $4 for children 10 and under), tours of the home, live music by Patchwork, a Classy Car Show with a “Crowd Favorite Award” and a special appearance by President Benjamin Harrison, Corn Hole, and presentation of the Flag.
Also the collection of gently used books has started for the Benton House Book Sale. The Annual Book Sale will be August 23, 24, and 25 this year. For those of you who are reading e-books (not me – I like the feel of a book, so I’ll be buying more books in August), this is a great time to get rid of your paperbacks and hardcovers for a great cause. Drop them off at Deering Cleaners (10th & Arlington) Roll With It Bakery, Snips Hair Salon, Dufour’s, Jockamo’s, or Black Sheep Gifts all on Washington Street in Irvington. For more information call Bill Clarke at 356-8692.
The Annual Irvington Garden Tour is Sunday June 30th from 1-5pm. More details to come. Visit www.irvingtongardenclub.com.
The Benton House Home Tour is set for Sunday, September 15th from noon to 5 p.m. This is the 40th year for the Home Tour and will be the biggest and best ever.
