LAWRENCE — The planning committees of two community events have combined forces to deliver a day of activities for kids and adults. The 19th Annual Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon features one of the most scenic routes in Central Indiana, starting and finishing in historic Fort Benjamin Harrison during the peak of the fall foliage season.
The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority 3rd Annual Fall Fest at the Fort, presented by Harrison College, is expanding its offerings as a result of this collaboration with the marathon.
Both events will be held on Saturday, October 18, on the south end of Lawton Loop just north of 56th Street in Lawrence. The marathon kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a kids’ marathon beginning at 12:45 p.m. The Fall Fest runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be located in the Parade Lawn near the starting line.
Fall Fest is a free community event, however all revenue generated from food and activity sales benefit Partnerships for Lawrence and the youth programming of the Lawrence Art Center. Participants can enjoy a variety of free activities including art and games and massages, as well as purchase pumpkins, cider, donuts. The whole family can build a six-foot scarecrow together — all materials are provided — for only $10. A food truck will be available.
