• Franciscan Health is hosting a weekly caregivers support group, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Franciscan Health Senior Promise in Indianapolis,.8778 Madison Ave. The group will meet each Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Franciscan Health Senior Promise Conference Room. The group is open to those who provide care for a loved one, who need a safe place to talk and interact with others who understand the frustrations, weariness, rewards and stress of being a caregiver. Topics discussed during sessions include signs of caregiver burnout, ways to reduce caregiver stress and self- care. The support group is free, but registration is required by calling 317-528-2636.
• All T.C. Howe 50s and 60s graduates are invited to an Open House reunion on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 6810 E. 10th St. This is a free event — bring your own food and drink. The event will be held indoors in the community center.
• FIDO is having a flea market on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon-3 p.m. at their headquarters, 1505 N. Sherman. They will have new and gently used pet supplies at great prices for cats and dogs. All proceeds go to support the FIDO mission of helping Indianapolis dogs outside.
• Heartland Film Festival runs Oct. 10-20 and will feature over 110 films at several locations, including the east side’s Kan-Kan Cinema. • Bosart-Brown neighborhood will have a Vintage Halloween film night and block party on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the first block of Wallace Ave. The street will be closed to traffic, and bring your lawn chair to watch It’s A Bird (1930) and One Body Too Many (1947). A $5 donation is optional.
• Congratulations to some local schools that made the National Blue Ribbon School list this year — Heritage Christian School and Paramount Cottage Home were all honored.
• On Monday, Sept. 30 from 1-5 p.m., the Warren Library, 9701 E. 21st St. will hold a community resource fair. Everyone is welcome to get medical screenings, mental health, housing, and substance abuse recovery information.
• The Garfield Gaiters are an adult walking club that meet at the Garfield Library and work their way through Garfield Park. They will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 2502 Shelby St. The club is for those 55 and older.
• Our Lady of Lourdes Fall Festival runs Sept. 26-28, and it will be a blast! OLL is located at 5333 E. Washington St. and they will have activities for youngsters, plus Monte Carlo, silent auctions, and much more for the grown-ups. Come on out for a good time and a good cause!
