• The community is invited to the Eiteljorg Museum for a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on Sat., Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., when admission is free. Nopal Cultural, a local Latino arts organization, and the Eiteljorg are partnering on the celebration that features music, art-making, dancing and a parade of catrinas, which are elegantly-dressed models in skeleton makeup. Performances, music, and an artisan marketplace on the grounds will make it a great day.
• Cops and Waters, an informal get-together with East District officers, will be held on Wed., Oct. 24 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Lincoln Square Pancake House in Irvington, 5648 E. Washington St. Meet East District Commander Spurgeon, plus officers from the Community Resource unit and patrol officers.
• Eastgate Neighborhood Association is meeting on Tues., Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Warren Government Center, 501 N. Post Rd. IMPD will do an “Active Shooter” presentation. Eastgate residents and business owners are welcome to this last meeting in 2018.
• Red Line construction looks like it will continue on Shelby St. and Meridian until December, weather permitting. On Meridian from 21st-38th St. on the west side of the street, vehicle travel is reduced to one lane for resurfacing, sidewalk, and curb repairs.
• Brick Street Poetry, Inc. is currently crowdfunding a neighborhood literary park next to IPS School #87 on the northwest side. If they raise $5,000 they will receive matching funds. The park would be used for writing workshops for children, plus art to be displayed in the park. • The Lawrence Players are bringing the classic story The Little Prince to life on stage at Theater at the Fort beginning Oct.20 and running through Oct. 28. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. at the Theatre at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. This play is based on the original novella written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and has been adapted for stage by director, Luis Oliva. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 senior/military/student, and are available at brownpapertickets.com.
• For the 23rd consecutive year, dozens of community partners are coming together at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center to host Safe Night Halloween Trunk or Treat from 5-7 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 31.The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center’s Safe Night Halloween Trunk or Treat is open to all children ages 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult. The Fairgrounds are located at 1202 E. 38th St. Visitors are asked to enter the Fairgrounds through Gate 1 off 38th Street and follow the directional signs to Elements Financial Blue Ribbon Pavilion.
