GREENWOOD — The Indiana Gourd Society will be featured at the Southside Art League Off Broadway Gallery in July. These artists will be displaying a delightful collection of decorated gourds.
The local Central Indiana Patch (CIP) of the Indiana Gourd Society was started in June of 2014 by Diane Werblo and her husband Robert McCrary. The CIP gourd artists meet on the third Thursday of each month at Indy’s Garfield Park Arts Center from 1-3 p.m. Almost anything that an artist can do on paper and canvas, they can do on a gourd — draw, paint, etch, wood burn, carve, embellish, etc. They do much more than make birdhouses, or long-necked water dippers. They make unique useful or decorative items such as bowls, vases, rainsticks, thunder drums, tiny fairy houses, spinning tops, and much more.
The CIP members compete in both the IGS Show and Indiana State Fair. The ISF competition can be found in the Agriculture-Horticulture and Indiana Arts Buildings. For more information, go to their website, www.indianagourdsociety.org
The gourd collection will be displayed at SALI from July 6-30. There will be a reception on Friday, July 8 from 6- 8 p.m. with refreshments.
The Southside Art League, Inc. (SALI) Off Broadway Gallery is located at 299 E. Broadway Street, Greenwood, 2 blocks north of Main St. and 6 blocks east of Madison Avenue in historic Old Town Greenwood.
Regular hours at the gallery are Wed. – Sat. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
