Retiring Owners of Legend Get Huge Appreciation Send off from Irvington Patrons

After 18 years in business, The Legend Classic Irvington Café has closed. Last Friday night (April 30th) was their final dinner before retiring. Owners John and Kim Robertson were shocked when called to the back parking lot where Irvingtonian Dawn Briggs had organized over 50 friends and neighbors to give them a clapping, thanks for the memories farewell (there were flowers, posters and even Black Hat Society Witches on hand). The crowd formed two rows of clapping, well wishing folks that gave their thanks to them as they walked down the middle with their staff, who were all overwhelmed with emotion.
Kim said when they started the restaurant, there were no lights in the parking lot and their 3 daughters (who all worked there while growing up) bought them the Art Deco light that still welcomed guests to their back entrance.
They were known for their great menu which included favorites like “Dad’s Crunchy Chicken” and “Mom’s Meatloaf” which were delicious! They were the first that I remember to serve garlic mashed potatoes and their Macaroni and Cheese was to die for.
John was active in the Irvington Business Association for years and they participated in many neighborhood events. They added such class to Irvington with their beautiful restaurant. Original art for sale from local artists always adorned their walls.
They will be missed — well, we already miss them and wish them the best in the next chapter of their lives.
