From The Indianapolis Star, Sunday, July 4, 1920: The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce will host a state housing conference this week to discuss the need of between 50,000 and 75,000 homes at the present time to house workers. The state chamber has designed a “community housing unit” as part of the “Indiana plan” for home owning. The unit provides for forty-eight homes with a central park and circle boulevard, laid out in the outskirts of the city and adjacent to the factory where home owners are employed. The lots are large enough to provide for a garden and poultry yard in addition to the house. It is believed that the large number of factory employees, having come from rural communities, will look with favor on a home and garden. The houses are to be sold on the installment plan
