Applause!: Nov. 29-Dec. 5

• Buck Creek Players opens their holiday play, Closed for the Holidays, Friday, Dec. 6. The original play involves a motley crew of travelers trapped at the local community center. This comedy is suitable for the family. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 per person, or $16 for students and seniors. • IMPD Southeast District will host a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. at Shepherd Community Center, 4107 E. Washington St. This free event is open to all, featuring a breakfast, plus a toy for children. Kids will also have a chance to have their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
• The Indy City Market will host the 12 Chefs of Christmas fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2-5 p.m. at City Market’s upper messanine level. Twelve local chef and 12 Indiana craft breweries work together to provide food to be enjoyed with specific brews. This is a casual event. • Christmas in Wanamaker will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Several businesses from 8600-9000 blocks of Southeastern Ave. will offer treats and specials. The parade begins at 2 p.m. and Santa will be in town for the little ones.
• Cumberland’s Weinhachtsmarkt is celebrating its 9th year on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. There will be lots of vendors, kid’s crafts, carriage rides, visits with Santa, topped off with a tree lighting ceremony and a light parade. Washington St. (U.S. 40) will be closed to through traffic during the event.
• Shop Small Day is Saturday, Nov. 30 throughout the country. It’s a day when small, independent businesses encourage the community to support them. The near eastside will feature businesses along the East 10th St. corridor. From Audrey’s Place to Indy Artsy, you can find unique items here. Most of our local restaurants, bars, and breweries offer gift cards — great stocking stuffers! Also, live trees will be available for sale at 8th Day Distillery and Indiana City Brewery will host an Artisan Market from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Irvington small businesses will have a variety of businesses offering specials.
• Irvington Luminaria will be held Sunday, Dec. 22 from 6-10 p.m. Residents are encouraged to light a path to their door with candles in white bags, anchored by sand. Luminaria kits are available at Ace Hardware, Bittersweet, Coal Yard Coffee, Deering Cleaners, Hampton Designs Studio, and the Magic Candle. Kits cost $2 for 5 candles and bags, $4 for 10, or $6 for 20. Proceeds from the sales help support programs in Irvington that benefit the community.
