INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) recently announced they have been awarded a $10,000 grant from Dogs Playing for Life. This money will be used to integrate play groups into the regular care of the dogs. Play groups have proven to help lower stress levels for dogs in shelters by allowing them to express normal canine behavior through interactions with other dogs. These groups are expected to lead to quieter kennels, less barrier reactivity, and happier dogs which will allow them to be adopted out faster.
A dog play group involves several dogs (normally about 5-15). This group will play together one to two times per week in an IACS play yard. While in the play yard, the dogs will be off-leash. These play groups are supervised at all times by an employee who is trained to safely handle a large group of dogs.

IACS Shelter Adoption Hours are: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Closed Wednesday.
