Walker Career Center is going to Disney World

INDIANAPOLIS — The Walker Career Center (WCC) Nanoline Engineering Team competed in the final rounds of Phoenix Contact’s Industrial Automation and Control competition on Feb. 20. The WCC team was one of three teams from the Midwest Regional at Purdue University that advanced to this year’s nationals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This year’s competition included 39 teams from across the nation. The WCC team was awarded 1st place, as well as, the Excellence Award for Communication. They claimed the grand prize of a seven day all-expense paid trip to Orlando, Florida in June for their project, Kitchen Assistant and Organizer: KA+O (Pronounced “Kay-Toh”). The purpose of this system is to serve as an accessible and automated food storage and inventory system. The Nanoline PLC industrial controller is used to manage the inventory, as well as, to control the device’s moving parts and interfaces with an iPad app that will collect inventory data from the Nano across the Internet.
The students will get to experience a world of animation/automation as they get to go behind the scenes at some of Disney World’s top theme parks. They will also get a tour of the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. They will get a chance to show off their team skills as they participate in The Great Escape Room project.
