From The Indianapolis News, Saturday, December 4, 1915: The Indianapolis Church Federation has been assured by the owners of the Columbia Theatre, 138 N. Delaware, and the Majestic Theater, 130 S. Illinois, that after tonight there will be no more “oriental dances” on the programs of either theater, and no more lewd or suggestive dances such as have been strongly criticized in the past will be permitted in the theaters. These assurances follow a long fight made by the church federation against programs that have been roundly condemned for months. The apathy and indifference of local authorities to appeals to stop these immoral and indecent dances led the church federation, after much effort, to learn the identity of the theater owners and prevail on them to prevent the use of their properties for such exhibits.
