• The Indy Regional Center Plan, which promotes the sustained growth of Indiana’s economy, is updating land use recommendations for downtown Indianapolis, focusing on the east and west portions. There will be a meeting to learn more about these updates on Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at The Hall, 202 N. Alabama St.
• Melody Coryell of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis Public Schools has been honored as a recipient of the Milken Educator Award. The award is given by the Milken Family Foundation and along with national recognition, includes a $25,000 cash prize. Coryell is an English teacher and the coordinator of Shortridge High School’s International Baccalaureate program.
• The National Law Enforcement & Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) recently announced Thomas Throgmorton of Beech Grove, as a recipient of the NLEAFCF Scholarship. Thomas received the scholarship in recognition of his exceptional leadership, community service and scholastic achievement. He was one of only 25 students selected across the country.
• McCordsville-based brewer Scarlet Lane Brewing Company will begin full-time packaging in December, and their first 22 oz. offer will be of Marley’s Ghost Stout. The beer, created in collaboration with the Indiana Repertory Theatre, was designed in celebration of the IRT’s yearly performance of the A Christmas Carol. Scarlet Lane Brewing Company will join the IRT during performances of A Christmas Carol on December 4th and the 11th providing pre-show samples. • Peace Learning Center has received a grant totaling $125,000 over two years from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to support its One Indy initiative at Indianapolis elementary schools serving students who live in high crime neighborhoods. The three year initiative will be implemented at Schools 51, 58, 39, and 15. Peace Learning Center plans to expand the initiative to other schools in the focus areas later, based on the success of this year’s programs. The biggest focus of the program is on the youngest students, in kindergarten and first grade.
• The Indiana Dept. of Transportation will hold meetings about the five preliminary routes for the I-69 extension between Martinsville and Indianapolis. The first meeting will be held Nov. 30 at Perry Meridian High School, 401 W. Meridian at 6 p.m. There will be an open house, followed by a formal presentation in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
