INDIANAPOLIS — The IndyFringe Festival is an 11-day festival centered around Mass Ave. that happens every August. Sixty-four performing groups are featured at 8 different venues, with over 384 individual performance. The festival will be held Aug. 13-23. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for students/seniors and $8 for children under 12.
The festival is uncensored and unjuried, and usually features about 50 percent local and 50 percent out of town performing groups. Eighty percent of ticket revenue is returned to the performer, and over the past 10 years, IndyFringe has returned $1,011,000 to performers.
This year, the festival has three new venues: The Firefighters Union Hall at 748 Mass Ave., the Musicians Union Hall at 325 N. Delaware, and the Marott Center at 342 Mass Ave. Other venues include Theatre on the Square Stage II and Mainstage (627 Mass Ave.), the Indy Eleven Theatre and IndyFringe Basile Theatre (719 E. St. Clair), ComedySportz (721 Mass Ave.)
Tickets can be purchased up to 2 hours before each performance online at indyfringe.org. Ticket sales at the venues are available 30 minutes prior to shows; venue box offices are cash only. Fiver passes are available at any of the box offices — $60 will buy 5 passes. There is a two for one offer on opening night exclusively online.
A Beer Tent is set up weekends from noon-11 p.m. at 748 Mass Ave., on the corner of Mass Ave. and St. Clair with local brews and music.
Some of the local groups performing include Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio (which will have family-friendly shows before 6 p.m.), EclecticPond, NoExit Performance, The Best of Indy Magic Monthly, Betty Rage, Matt Holt, Silly Safaris, Dance Kaleidoscope, and many more.
