From The Indianapolis Star, Friday, July 16, 1915: America’s aerial warfare of the future may be successful to some extent as the result of the interest in the work of aviator B. Russell Shaw of Indianapolis, president of the Shaw Aeroplane Co, 3761 N. Illinois St. Yesterday afternoon, Shaw advised Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels his company would be glad to assist the government in the training of U. S. Navy and Army officers in the use and construction of aeroplanes. The Secretary recently appointed Thomas A. Edison, who had classed the necessity of trained aerial officers as one of the country’s greatest necessities, to head a board to perfect modern war machinery. It is probable the Indianapolis factory will have an opportunity to comply with the terms of the offer.
