• Art lovers awaiting the Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House, set for April 24 and 25, will get a “First Peek” on Friday, April 3 at the gallery exhibition opening reception, from 5-9 p.m. at The Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery. The exhibition will feature work from some of the 60+ artists participating in the Open House. Artwork ranges from paintings, drawings and photography, to sculpture, jewelry and furniture. • The Harrison Center for the Arts will be closed for First Friday, as they undergo a renovation. Check them out May 1 for the next gallery opening. In the meantime, visit some of the other fabulous galleries, including 5547 Bonna in Irvington, Circle City Industrial Center on Brookside, Bookmamas in Irvington, and other venues where local artists find a home.
• Community Health Network, DPS, IMPD and Fervent Prayer Church will hold a Community Behavioral Health Fair on April 16 at the church, 10512 E. 38th St. from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Information about mental health issues, substance abuse, and treatment availability in the community will be available. Everyone is welcome to this free fair.
• Want to know more about the Mass Ave. Brookside Business Corridor redevelopment plans? On April 8 from 6-7 p.m. at the Spades Park Library (1801 Nowland Ave.), several organizations will be on hand to discuss how to use the corridor wisely and for the benefit of the community. All are welcome to attend.
• Lawrence residents are invited to help install new playground equipment at the Oaklandon Play Park, 11828 E. 65th St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on April 11. The Parks Dept. crew started tearing out the old equipment last month to make way for new equipment.
• Indiana’s largest employment event geared to helping Hoosier veterans and their families find jobs will be held April 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds AgHort building. Admission is free and parking is free. Visit www.ohhv.org for more information.
• IndyVet is offering free eye exams for Service Dogs in May. Registration for the eye screenings is required. To qualify, animals must be certified or currently enrolled in a formal training program. Dogs eligible for the exams include guide, handicapped assistance, drug detection, military, search and rescue, and certified-current registered therapy dogs.
