From The Indianapolis Star, Wednesday, December 16, 1914: The Dunn-McCarty Co of Chicago, contractors constructing the Pogues Run Drain, have completed about 1,550 feet of the structure. Large amounts of reinforcing steel are being used to strengthen the concrete. The walls of the concrete boxes vary in width from 18 to 36 inches. In several places the drain is being constructed beneath railroad tracks and under large buildings. The construction of this huge sewer, a preliminary step in track elevation work, will cost the city, the street railway company and interested railroad companies approximately $1,000,000 (2013: $22,924,482.76).
