• Start cleaning out those old receipts, checkbooks, and sensitive documents! The 3rd Annual Warren Community Electronic/Appliance Recycling and Shred Day is scheduled for Sept. 6, 9 a.m. – noon at Warren Central High School, 9500 E. 16th Street. Hoosier Shred will shred your old documents and Greenwave Recycling will collect appliances, TVs and computers.
• Thank you to all the ministers and congregations who will be taking part in the the Irvington Association of Ministers “Stop the Violence” rally on Sept. 7 at 9:15 a.m. The rally will be held in the front yard of George W. Julian School, School 57, 5435 E. Washington Street in Irvington. Tim Nation, director of the Peace Learning Center will offer brief remarks. Six Irvington congregations will be involved. Other congregations and community members are invited to join this rally calling for peace in Indianapolis neighborhoods.
• Want to see some of the best and brightest new playwrights in Indianapolis? Check out the Playwrights Festival at the Q Sept. 4-6 at Q Artistry, 5515 E. Washington St. Thurs., Sept. 4 is Teen Night, featuring short plays by Morgan Roof, Matt McDonald, and Fionna Dwyer beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 features a play by KT Peterson at 8 p.m. Sept. 6 features two plays, one by Ann Marie Elliott and one by Tim Thomas at 7 p.m. Admission is free. You get to vote on which plays Q will produce.
• The theatre season is getting into full swing, with Epilogue Players presenting Play On! a play about a theatre groups trying desperately to put on a play despite an interefering playwright who keeps making edits. It will be produced for three weekends beginning Sept. 12. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 for general admission, seniors and Epilogue members $11 and children 12 and under $9. • The Indianapolis Indians set a new single season franchise attendance record with a total of 660,289 fans enjoys games at Victory Field. Their last home game on Aug. 30 attracted 15,200 spectators. The previous record was set in 1998.
• Primary Colours “Art vs. Art” Paint Day will be held Sept. 6 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr. Each artist will be given four hours, five brushes, five acrylic colors, and one 18×20 canvas. All painting created on this day will then be voted on online, with the top vote-getters heading to a side-by-side face-off on September 26 for one huge cash prize.
