• Many thanks to the children that participated in the Public Art summer day camp at LYN House. They decorated 7 panels to add to the art on the fence and 7 “stumps” for seating at the Rivoli Park Labyrinth which is located in the 900 block of North Kealing Avenue.
• There will be a family sing-a-long at the Irvington Library on Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a drawing for a free student guitar. The library is located at 5625 E. Washington St.
• The Irvington Garden Club recently donated $600 to the Friends of Irving Circle to help defray the cost of newly spread mulch at the park.
• Speaking of the Irvington Garden Club, their monthly farmer’s market is coming up on Aug. 10 (Sunday) from noon to 3 p.m. This is the peak of the vegetable season, so be sure to get out to Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair and grab some tomatoes and corn. There are also lots of artisan/craft vendors, plus food and drink for the whole family.
• Buck Creek Players is offering Flex Passes for their 2014-15 theatre season. Pre-purchase any quantity of flex pass tickets at $14 each through Nov. 1 and save up to $4 per seat. • Kristopher Owens’s “Overwhelming Underpass” was the winning idea at the August 1st 5×5 Indy ideas competition, re:MIX at the Harrison Center for the Arts. Owens’s idea is to create a “community corps” that makes underpasses more user-friendly with the addition of better lighting, landscaping and public art. He will be forming a volunteer corp to landscape and maintain the underpasses in the Old Northside and add public art and LED lighting. His $10,000 prize will go, specifically, toward the underpass at Alabama and 11th Streets in the Old Northside.
• Lawrence and Fort Harrison are on a growth tear. Recently, officials broke ground for a new development at 9162 E. 56th St. It will be office suites, with retail, anchored by Jockamo Upper Crust — their third location! Building should be completed in early 2015.
• The Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission hearing for the Pennsy Trail in Irvington will be held Aug. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Go show your support for this important part of the trail at the Public Assembly Room, second floor of the City/County Building, 200 E. Washington St.
• Want to learn more about Beech Grove Redevelopment? Attend an information meeting on Aug. 16 from 9 a.m.-noon on the second floor of Beech Grove City Hall, 802 Main St.
