One of the really exciting things about this job is getting to call my reader’s attention to an outstanding young person who is also an outstanding athlete. So it is with Irvington Preparatory Academy’s Lauren Pressley. A graduating senior, Lauren has been one the most productive and versatile players on the Irvington Ravens Woman’s Varsity Basketball Team for the past three years. Lauren was the Lady Raven’s top all around player from her shooting guard position during the 2013-14 season She averaged 16.2 points scoring per game, she led the team in rebounds with 13.5 per game. She averaged 5.4 blocks and 3.3 steals per game. She showed outstanding leadership qualities and has an inspiring work ethic as well as being an excellent student. Her coach Jim Sturgeon says of Lauren “ Lauren Pressley is energetic, outgoing, athletic, competitive, compassionate, a leader and above all a young lady who loves to play the game of basketball. Lauren not only possesses all the intangibles of a great player but she has all the skills. I have had the privilege in my career of coaching many great female athletes, and Lauren Pressley fits right in with that group.”
Lauren Pressley will be attending Indiana University-Kokomo in the fall so all her Irvington fans will be able to continue to follow her college hoops career with the Cougars. We at the Weekly View extend all our best wishes for continued success to Lauren Pressley in all of her endeavors and we want to express our gratitude to Lauren for all the positive attention she has brought to the Irvington Community and to her school.

Marvin Harrison Shot At While Helping Robbery Victim
Last Saturday June 14 at 3:20 AM , former Colt wideout Marvin Harrison was driving his Ford F-350 pickup truck through the Wynnefield Heights section of West Philadelphia when a man clad only in his underwear came running up to his truck yelling for help. The man said two armed men were robbing his apartment and he needed to call 9-1-1.Harrison let the man climb into his truck while he called police. However, two robbers came to the street and one of them fired two shots at Harrison’s truck. Nobody was hit but one of the shots flattened one of Harrison’s tires. Philadelphia police are investigating the incident.
Unfortunately, Marvin Harrison is no stranger to gun violence. In 2009 a man named Robert Dixon was killed by four shots fired from a gun belonging to Harrison that was kept at Harrison’s Philadelphia nightclub “Playmakers.” Harrison and Dixon had been involved in a dispute that started in Harrison’s nightclub in 2008. The FBI is still investigating the crime and the 41 year old Harrison is still a suspect.
Roster Moves
Defensive Lineman Fili Moala will miss the entire 2014 Colts season after tearing his right ACL. Moala was the second round draft pick of the Colts in 2009 and played college ball at USC.
Strong Safety Cory Lynch was moved to the Colts injured reserve list with an undisclosed injury. Lynch attended Appalachian State University and was drafted by the Bengals in the 2008 NFL draft. Lynch joined the Colts last November and saw action the last five regular season games and the playoffs. It was hoped Lynch might be able to help fill the void in the defensive backfield left by Antoine Beathea’s departure for the San Fransisco 49ers.
Safety Mike Adams was added to the Colts roster. Adams was signed as a rookie free agent by San Fransisco in 2004 after playing college ball at Delaware. Adams was a part of the Denver Bronco’s 20013 AFC Championship team and played in the Super Bowl. Adams has 13 career interceptions and 547 total tackles in a ten year career.
Rookie second round draft pick Jack Mewhort had what is said to be an outstanding rookie camp and is already been penciled in as the Colt’s starting right offensive guard. Mewhort played left offensive tackle at Ohio State in 2013 and was the Colts top draft pick.
